The Full Moon Party in Thailand is one of the few events that genuinely lives up to its reputation. Thirty thousand people on an 800-metre stretch of beach. A dozen sound systems playing everything from EDM to reggae to drum and bass. Fire dancers. UV paint. Bucket drinks—Sunrise over the Gulf of Thailand.
It happens every month on Haad Rin Beach, Koh Phangan. And if you are planning a trip to Thailand in 2026, timing it around the Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan is one of the best decisions you can make.
Here is everything you need: the official 2026 dates, how to get there, where to stay, what to bring, and what no one warns you about until it is too late.
Official Full Moon Party Thailand 2026 Dates
The Haad Rin Business Association issues the dates below; it is the official body that sets the Full Moon Party schedule each year. Due to recent changes in Thai law, the 2026 parties will not be shifted around Buddhist holidays as was previously the case. All parties run on the actual night of the full moon.

Best dates to target from India: For the biggest atmosphere, aim for the high-season parties between December and February, or in July and August. For a better balance of crowd size and weather, the March to May parties offer smaller crowds and easier accommodation. The 26 September party falls on a Saturday, making it the standout pick for Indian travellers who want a weekend-aligned trip.
Where Is the Full Moon Party?
The Full Moon Party Thailand takes place exclusively on Haad Rin Beach (Haad Rin Nok) on the island of Koh Phangan, in the Gulf of Thailand. Koh Phangan sits between Koh Samui to the south and Koh Tao to the north.
Koh Phangan has no airport. The island is accessed by ferry from Surat Thani Province or from the nearby islands of Koh Samui and Koh Tao.
There are two main routes from India:
Via Surat Thani (URT): Fly into Surat Thani Airport, take a shuttle bus to Donsak Pier, then board a ferry to Koh Phangan. Total journey from the airport: roughly 2 to 3 hours.
Via Koh Samui (USM): Fly into Koh Samui Airport and take a speedboat or ferry to Koh Phangan. From Nathon Pier or Mae Nam Pier in Samui, the crossing takes 30 minutes to 1 hour. Most direct flights from India connect through Bangkok (BKK or DMK), with onward connections to either airport.
What Actually Happens at the Full Moon Party Koh Phangan
The party starts around sunset and runs until 6 AM. The entire length of Haad Rin Beach becomes a single continuous venue, divided into zones by genre. Each bar and stage plays a different style. You move between them throughout the night.
The signature elements: UV body paint applied at stalls along the beach, fire jump ropes and fire shows on the sand, the famous bucket cocktails sold everywhere, and the gradual build from early-night energy to full sunrise chaos.
Entrance to the Full Moon Party costs 200 Thai Baht. You receive a wristband at the door that allows you access to Haad Rin Beach for the entire night. There is no presale. Tickets are only available at the door on the night of the event.
The crowd is international, but the vibe is distinctly backpacker and young traveller. Indian travellers have been attending in increasing numbers over the last several years. You will not feel out of place.
The One Thing Most Guides Get Wrong About Planning This Trip
Most articles advise booking accommodation on Haad Rin Beach to be close to the party. That advice is only half right, and for Indian travellers it often backfires.
Haad Rin accommodation books out 2 to 3 months before the Full Moon Party date, especially for the high season parties. Many hotels and guesthouses in the Haad Rin area require a minimum stay of 3 to 4 nights during Full Moon Party dates. If you are booking at the last minute or want flexibility, you will either pay a significant premium or find nothing available.
The better approach for most Indian travellers is to stay on Koh Samui and take the speedboat across at night. Speedboats depart Samui in the evening, take 20 to 30 minutes to reach Haad Rin, and return in the early hours at around 2 to 4 AM. A return speedboat transfer costs approximately USD 30-50. You get the full party experience, sleep in a comfortable Samui hotel, and avoid the chaos of Haad Rin’s overpriced, overcrowded accommodation during peak nights.
This approach also means your Thailand trip does not hinge on one event. If a date shifts or plans change, your base on Samui remains fully usable.
What to Wear and Bring
Keep this list short. You are going to a beach party, not a music festival in a field.
Wear: Closed shoes or sturdy sandals. Not flip-flops. By the late hours, the beach collects broken glass and debris. Flip-flops leave your feet exposed to cuts. Wear something you do not mind getting paint on. UV-reactive white clothing stands out dramatically under black lights.
Bring: Waterproof phone pouch. A small amount of cash in Thai Baht (ATMs around Haad Rin charge high fees on party nights). A charged power bank. Your return ferry or speedboat ticket is kept in a safe, dry place.
Leave behind: Valuables, expensive jewellery, and anything you would be upset to lose. Pickpocketing increases significantly on party nights with crowds this size.
Safety: What to Know Before You Go
Do not drink directly from communal buckets. The drinks are strong and sweet, and it is difficult to prevent others from adding unknown substances. Buy sealed bottled drinks instead.
The tides and currents around Haad Rin are extremely dangerous at full moon, and visibility in the water is very low after dark. Do not swim in the sea, especially after drinking.
Travel in a group where possible. Agree on a meeting point at the start of the night in case you get separated. Phone signal on the beach gets congested as the crowd builds.
Buy travel insurance that specifically covers medical evacuation. Koh Phangan’s hospital is basic. Serious incidents require transfer to Koh Samui or the mainland.
How to Build a Thailand Trip Around the Full Moon Party
The Full Moon Party works best as part of a wider Thailand trip, not as a standalone event. A practical 7-day itinerary that Indian travellers have used:
Days 1 to 2: Bangkok. Fly in, sort your Koh Phangan transport onward tickets.
Days 3 to 4: Koh Samui. Settle in, beach time, explore.
Night of Day 4 or 5: Speedboat to Haad Rin for the Full Moon Party. Return by early morning.
Days 5 to 6: Koh Phangan or Koh Tao. Koh Tao is 45 minutes north of Koh Phangan by high-speed ferry and offers some of the best and most accessible scuba diving in Southeast Asia.
Day 7: Return to Bangkok for your flight home.
